Hey guys when is the trade deadline?
Also do any of you expect any blockbuster deals?
Which teams do you think need to bolster up for the playoff drive?
I think there are definitely going to be a couple of sellers come the deadline.
discuss.

i dunno if i expect a lot of changes for the top two/three teams in the league, cause those three probably think they've got what it takes to win it already.
But, teams that are maybe 4th or 5th could/should probably be getting some solid buying action from the 7th or 8th team sellers. This is what I'm thinking: major buyers = golden seals, sabres, maybe even scrantonicity; major sellers = north stars, jets
In terms of blockbuster deals, as much as I'd like to see one go down, I don't think so---most "all-star" caliber players are getting used to their teams and a trade could mess that whole chemistry thing tho...but I could be wrong, cause I mean the North Stars lost earlier today to Scrantonicity so they might be looking to make a big deal soon to try and get back into the race.
Also another thing to think about is that a big trade would probably also involve stealing a draft pick in next years draft...

I think there are plenty of possible trades out there. You look at a team like the North Stars, who in my mind, are due to break out eventually, they can use 1 ot 2 more pieces to their puzzle.
I think one of the players that could be on the market include G Arran Baird of the Jets. How big of a move would that be for him to go to a contender. The guy stands on his head most games and doesn't get much help. The price for Baird could be huge though. From what crunk mentioned earlier in terms of draft picks for next year, i think the Jets could be asking for a 1st adn 2nd rounder for a golatender like Baird. After all, goaltending is the most important position in this hockey league if you want to go far.
One must also look at the likes of a Brandon Kapitan, or Jordan Carino of the Scrantonicity. Although they are coming off their first win of the season, I am not sure they have what it takes to go deep in the playoffs. Perhaps they would entertain a trade in selling off one of their assets to rebuild their team for next year. Possible trading partners could include the Jets, who may have some picks to give next year if they trade Baird before the deadline. The Jets, if they were to add a Kapitan or Carino, could have a much better offense with the likes of McGarvie and the aformentioned names.
Finally, I think there might be some movement for the Whalers. Yes I knwo they are a good team; however, I think they need to add a little more of a defensive game to their team as it was exposed vs the Nordiques. Now Mark Staples is a good player, but he is a journeyman this year. I believe the Whalers could find the right trade to move him, and perhaps a draft pick to a team like the North Stars in exchange for a scorer in the form of the hot and cold Darnell Gauvin. Maybe Darnell needs a change of scenery to pick up his game fro mlast year? In return, the Nort hStars would add much needed grit and a player who can put the puck in the net.
Other than that, I htink the Blazers, Nordiques , and Golden Seals look good this year. The defending champs ar eshowing no signs of weakness, while the Nordiques are the only team to get at least a point from them this year, and are not slowing down either.
The Golden Seals are my pick for the most improved team for the second half. Led by the scoring ways of Kelcey Brade and Jim Pearse, I think this team has the tools, including great goaltending , to go far. Brian Riyomto has stepped up his game to provide a solid defensive presence. Now if the Seals find a way to keep week 4 callup Tyler Lietx in the lineup, I think you can consider it done to have the Goden Seals labelled as 2008 champs.
Like what you read? Perhaps you have an argument? Please write back to vicsundar@dontdisagreewithmeorelseyou'llfindoutwhathappens.ca.
Sincerely,
Vic Sundar, Vice President & General Manager, Baptist Church Hockey League

Correct me if I"m wrong Vic but Week 8 is the trade deadline/Call Up Freeze.
If any one has any real trade proposals they should be discussed here as well!
An interesting point that Vic made about Mark Staples was trading him for a defensive player, I would say Navine Sundar would be the perfect fit for the Whalers and it seems that Staples would also fit in perfect with the Sabres to offer them a real power forward??? Theirs not too many players in the BCHL like Staples that can go to the net and make a goalies life miserable. I was quite impressed with Navins defensive play against the Blazers Saturday, besides the great goaltending of Lowood, Navin made many key plays limiting the blazers to only 10 goals! I would have to say Navine's the leading candidate for the Norris trophy!
OH! and one other rumour I heard is Mark Staples is not too happy about getting a medium Whalers t-shirt and he is looking to order a new shirt, so any trades for him would have to take place rather quickly. Could this of been the Commish's plan all along? To order Mark Staples a shirt that was way to small for him in order to get him angry and to demand a trade? Who knows, only time will tell what come out of this BCHL fiasco!!!!

First off, I think you mentioned the wrong email. Last I checked it was vicsundar@imgayandihaventquitefigureditoutyet.ca unless you recently changed it!! Secondly I know Lietz is a decent player but he doesn't make up for a 13 goal differential when the Blazers played the GSeals in Week 3. Seals for the 2008 champs? I'd be willing to go money line on that bet sundar any day! Baird is a solid goalie and I could def see some blockbuster deal going down with him being sent to the Seals too. I know Riyomoto is pretty good in net, but his natural position is forward, and with an addition like Baird, maybe just maybe they could contend. GS would prob have to give up 2 players and maybe 2 draft picks for him tho to get an equal exchange

The recent rumor mill surrounding the trade deadline is that the deal the Golden Seals gave to the Jets has been temporarily rejected. Apparently there were a couple players and a couple picks involved. The Nordiques are also interested in Baird's services and are wiling to throw in cash.
Another story surrounding the Nordiques is that they are interested in acquiring Pat Dennis from the Whalers. Captain Moe Sahib was in tlaks with Whalers GM Hayden O'Neal Wednesday trying to put together a deal. Word has it that Dennis wants to remain with the Whalers and does not want to move teams at the moment.
The Blazers were dealt a serious blow Monday, as team captain Jens Cuthbert left the game in the 3rd period with an apparent knee injury, but the team is stating its no more than a lower body injury. Cuthbert, when speaking with a member of the media, mentioned he will play Sunday vs the North Stars, although there will be a close eye kept on that situation. The team is also expected to announce their week 6 addition on Saturday Night Hockey.
A reminder that there is a double header this Saturday in the BCHL as the 3pm game fits the winless Jets against the new look Nordiques. The later game will have the Whalers, who will be without Captain Hayden O'Neal (personal reasons) against the Scrantonicity. Cameras will be at the game, and it is rumored that George Bocolas will be the After Hours guest this week.

Thanks Vic for the detailed trade deadline report. It is really neat to see how the league "models" the real thing. I love the Mark S. t-shirt saga.... that's one tight whaler....... who would of course "fit" in with any other team.

I spoke to Kelsey Brade and Mark Tompson earlier today and they both mentioned the club is looking to make a move.
brade says his club is sniffing around at a couple of teams right now.
We've all heard of the Seals proposal with the Jets. He says talks have gone stale as nothing firm has been sent back from the Jets camp.
He also did mention the club is looking at a player on the Whalers but he wouldn't go into further detail. I'm not quite sure who they like on that team as Pat Dennis has already stated he'd like to remain with the club so unless they've sweetened the deal who knows.
Now Mark says another club they've been scouting is the Nordiues. Again, not sure about this deal as it would be seen as a lateral move, unless they have another deal up their sleave.
He too like brade says talks have gone sideways as of right now with the Jets. But he feels there still might be some smoke there.
one thing is for certain the two clubs (nords and seals) who feel they can make a run at the blazers are definitely trying to bulk up.
it should be a very interesting week or so

Hey Guys,
Just got an update from someone close to the Seals who say a deal is imminent between them and Jets.
The source hesitated to go into specifics but says the Seals are trying to send Brian Riyomoto and an undetermind amount of draft picks to the Jets for Arran Baird and a pick.
My source tells me the deal could be struck within the next 48 hours.
I'll give an update as more information becomes available.

a story will be posted, eh? lets see how close this one comes to the truth, as i've seen some pretty funny stuff regarding the jets club. plus it'll be kinda hard to get the full story if the majority of the discussion, which happened with doors closed to both the seals and goalie baird, can only be found with a few lowly jets players, which, to my knowledge, are yet to be spoken with haha.
