Whalers G Andrew Gowan recorded the first shutout in BCHL history on Monday Night.
It wasnt a complete gift either, he had to earn it at times, the Jets had chances, I watched, I thought at least 1 would get by. Andrew made 40 saves in the shutout, quite legit. The league has been talking about even spread talent as for league goaltenders. No one has really stood out...until this shutout by Gowan. So Gowan might be the number 1 goalie in the league right now, but his pretty little gaa does face the blazers in two weeks (45 goals in 3 games). we will see, but if I did power rankings for the top 3 goalies in the league, right now mine would look like this
1: Andrew Gowan (Whalers) 2. Chris Narayan (Nordiques) 3. Shaun Lowood (Sabres)
these can obviously change game to game almost as their are goalies not even in the top 3 capable of being the top goalie. On After Hours, Andrew was asked who is the best goalie and he said Bryan Ponech (North Stars). Blazers G Blake Chancey has not even seen action this season with an injured ankle, he could come back and post serious numbers. Jets G Arran Baird is probably the hardest working goalie in the league and Golden Seals G Jim Pearse might have the most potential as a goalie.
Do you guys agree with my top 3 goalies in the power rankings? or who is? just want to get some feedback on goaltending in the bchl.....

1: Andrew Gowan (Whalers) 2. Chris Narayan (Nordiques) 3. Shaun Lowood (Sabres) That isn't a bad prediction, i probably would say the same...but if theres anything i know its that I'd have to say that after 3 weeks its REALLY tough to tell who's on top. Not to hate on gowans shut out, which was imo really amazing but he was playing a team that only averages about 1.00 goals per period (lowest in league) and i think has the least shot attempts per game in the league too. Not to mention the fact that the 3 teams the Whalers have played have only won a combined 1 game total. Same thing goes for the Sabres, who played two under-500 teams. The goalie that I might actually consider putting at the top instead of Gowan is Narayan, who posted a solid 2 goals against performance vs the Sabres, who averaged double digit goals prior to coming into that game. Moreso, in the first saturday game, Narayan's Nordiques team limited the Blazers to only 9 regulation goals in an intense OT thriller, which is a little more than half of what they're averaging for the whole year! To add a little more, backup goalie Jarquin for the Blazers has had 6 of his 9 periods played with only letting up 1 goal, but he has 0 SOP's, meaning 6 times he's come really close to an SOP; in fact, if you scratch off the erratic second period in the first game, Jarquin is averaging 1.38 goals per period, the lowest in the league. But who's next? Gowan at 1.6goals per period. Consistency is a huge issue, and thats why I give mad props to Gowan. So maybe Jarquin's stats just attest to the defense of the Blazers, seeing as he's not even the starting goaltender, so I'd look to watch out for when their real goalie comes back into the game. But yeah its gonna be interesting to see who's on top in a few weeks for sure! Wud do u guys think? i know im getting really technical with the stats

definitely a good analysis there.
A lot of scrappy goals around the net are scored in the BCHL making rebound control a key. The aggressive goalies who are ready to attack and jump on loose pucks save a lot of goals. This is why I like Chris Narayan (Nordiques) a lot, it seems like he is everywhere. Jasub Jarquin (Blazers) is also very aggressive around his goal, making him successful. Andrew Gowan (Whalers) is a pure goaltender, but he doesn't attack the rebounds as well as those 2, overall he is #1 right now though.
Jarquin is my goalie, and he's playing well, im sure he'd improve through an entire season....if he stayed our #1 goalie, he could be on track to a Vezina trophy, no doubt in my mind its possible.....but that is not going to happen, we are excited to get Blake Chancey back between the pipes in week 4 or 5. He is also an aggressive-style goaltender, with more pure skills than Jarquin simply from experience.
Jarquin will gladly give up his great numbers (3-0, 6.00 GAA) to play his forward role with the Blazers. We try to maintain as much attack zone time as possible and "Juice" works the offensive end corners as good as anyone.
Juice out there and Blake in net fills all the pieces of our team. Which is scary that we can improve to this, but honestly, we only have 1 ice hockey player. Without giving away too much I'll drop these tips as the key to our and any team wanting success in this league: Learn your teammates and Learn the puck
...but yeah, any more thoughts on BCHL Goalies?...

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere yet ... so I thought I would.
Congrats Blazers on setting the new mark for Goals For in a game -- 25.
You guys originally disputed this stat as we temporarily stole this mark set last year but you've officially got it back this time set in stone.
Cheers
